FAQ

Is this tool free?

Yes — it is completely free to use, with no account or sign-up required.

What is this tool?

PDF Annotator lets you open any PDF and mark it up right in your browser. View pages with zoom, thumbnails and full-text search, then highlight, underline, strike through, draw freehand with the pen, add rectangles and arrows, and drop text notes anywhere. Undo or clear as you go, then download a new PDF with your annotations merged in. Your file never leaves your device — all rendering and saving happen locally.

Are my uploaded files sent to a server?

No. Everything runs only on your own computer, inside your browser, and your files are never sent to a server or anywhere else. So you can use it with complete peace of mind, without worrying about your file contents leaking.

Are my annotations saved into the original PDF?

When you click Download, your annotations are merged onto the pages and a new PDF is created. The original file on your device is left unchanged.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is opened, annotated and saved entirely in your browser — it is never sent to any server.

Can I annotate a scanned PDF?

Yes — highlighter, pen, shapes and text notes work on any PDF, including scans. Text search only works on PDFs that contain real (selectable) text.
