Liu Biao

Courtesy name: 景升 (Jingsheng)Lived: 142 ~ 208

Profile

The scholar-lord who rode into Jing Province alone, won over its clans, and kept it a haven from the wars for nearly twenty years. A famed literatus of the "Eight Paragons," he built schools and gathered scholars until refugees of talent streamed south. He sheltered Liu Bei at Xinye — neither trusting nor discarding him. He died just before Cao Cao’s southern march; his heir surrendered at once, and his sanctuary was swept into the flood.

History vs. the novelHistoryvsNovel

The novel has him offering Jing Province to Liu Bei, burnishing the hero’s legitimacy. History’s verdict is split: dismissed as an "armchair talker," yet increasingly honored as one of the few rulers who actually kept his people safe.
